It was a tough week to be a Jason Heyward, Tony Cingrani,Troy Tulowitzki, or Rafael Betancourt fantasy owner, let’s take a look at who else is out and who’s on the mend.
Martin Prado (back): The streaking Prado sat out Sunday’s game with a tight back but isn’t expected to miss an extended period of time.
Aaron Hill (hip/groin): Hill got a bit nicked up in the DBacks-Phillies 18-inning marathon on Saturday and sat out Sunday’s game but isn’t expected to sit for an extended period of time.
Miguel Montero (back): Montero, out since the end of June, could return as early as Tuesday and will certainly return some time this week.
Chris Johnson (foot): Johnson sat out Sunday’s game with turf toe but is expected to play on Tuesday against the Indians.
Dan Uggla (eye): Uggla will return on Wednesday after missing a couple of weeks to have LASIK eye surgery. Uggla was batting just .186 so his eyesight could use a boost but his 21 home runs keep him fantasy relevant.
Brandon Beachy (elbow): Beachy has landed back on the DL just five starts after making his 2013 debut. Beachy is out with elbow inflammation and considering he’s just returned from Tommy John surgery it’s possible that he misses the rest of the season.
Jason Heyward (broken jaw): Heyward is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after fracturing his jaw when he was hit in the head by a pitch.
Clay Buchholz (elbow): Buchholz has begun a rehab stint and is currently on track to return to the rotation on September 4 barring any setbacks.
Tony Cingrani (back): Cingrani has been placed on the 15-day DL with a back injury but the rookie isn’t expected to miss an extended period of time. He’ll likely be back right after the 15 days are up which is great news for Cingrani’s fantasy owners since the lefty has given up more than three runs in a start just once this season.
Troy Tulowitzki (side): Tulo was scratched from Sunday’s game after hurting his side in Saturday’s contest. While he’s currently listed as day-to-day, this could be a more serious oblique injury which would be a big hit to his fantasy owners since he already missed a month of the season with broken ribs.
Rafael Betancourt (elbow): Betancourt is likely done for the season with torn ligaments in his elbow which means Rex Brothers will take over closer duties in Colorado.
Tyler Chatwood (elbow): Chatwood has begun a rehab stint and if things go swimmingly he could be back on the mound by the weekend and certainly by next week.
Derek Jeter (calf): Jeter is expected to rejoin the Yankees as soon as Tuesday. Who knows for how long.
Josh Reddick (wrist): Reddick told reporters there’s a 50/50 chance that he lands on the DL with his current wrist injury but he’ll definitely miss some time regardless. The A’s will likely bring up Daric Barton if Reddick hits the DL.
Brett Anderson (foot): Anderson is expected to rejoin the A’s rotation this week after sitting out since April 29 with a foot injury.
Bartolo Colon (groin): Colon has only been out a couple of weeks and is also expected to rejoin the A’s rotation, likely on Thursday.
Domonic Brown (ankle): Tests showed inflammation in Browns’ Achilles but the outfielder intends to play through the injury – for now.
Starling Marte (finger): Marte has been placed on the DL and the extent of his injury won’t be know until his swelling goes down so more tests can be done.
Matt Cain (forearm): Cain has been placed on the DL but is expected to return as soon as the 15 days are up.
Matt Moore (elbow): Moore is expected to be activated on Tuesday and start against the Angels after missing nearly a month with an elbow injury.
