Big news coming out of Miami last night, as it looks like Derek Jeter will become the new team owner. He and Governor Jeb Bush won an auction for the Marlins, and the final step is that they have to be approved by 75% of the other owners. We had some big action on the diamond as well. Trea Turner had an incredible night as he hit for the cycle and drove in 7 runs. Even after that, the Nationals only won by 3. The Tigers racked up the runs last night as the ball was flying around the ballpark. Last night we had some rain outs on the east coast so pitchers may have been shuffled around.
Low-Scoring Plays
Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants – Cueto takes the mound for the Giants against the rival Dodgers. He has had success against the Dodgers as they have only hit .248 off of him. The Giants were shut down by Kershaw last night, so look for Cueto to get redemption. On the other side Alex Wood has held the Giants to a team batting average .284, with only 1 home run. The Giants should be able to win this one in a close, low-scoring game.
Targets: Cueto, Posey
Chicago Cubs @ Pittsburgh Pirates – Lester is still in search of his first win of the season. Look for him to get it against a Pirates team that isn’t very good. Gerrit Cole pitched a gem last night, however the Cubs won 1-0. This game should be low-scoring on the Pirates end. Look for the Cubs to score more than one run, but Lester would be a great play.
Target: Lester, Shwarber, Rizzo
High-Scoring Play
Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox – Jose Quintana is struggling this year with an ERA above 6.00. Kansas City is barley hitting above .200 as a team. If you look at the chart below you will see the team from their 2015 title and their batting averages. Most of those players are still in the starting lineup. I know the Royals lost pitching but I’m not looking at that factor. They can lose from the lack of pitching but their batting should be better than last in the league. They are also 2-10 on the road.
Player | 2015 batting Average | Still on team |
Cain | .307 | Yes |
Hosmer | .297 | Yes |
Morales | .290 | No |
Moustakas | .284 | Yes |
Gordon | .271 | Yes |
Perez | .260 | Yes |
Escobar | .257 | Yes |
Undervalued Plays
Brandon Phillips – ATL – 2B – Batting .343 with 2 home runs, Phillips would be a solid pick up. He has a higher average than Murphy and costs $2000 less. He is playing Syndergaard so there is a chance he goes 0-5. However his ownership will be very low, so if he plays well you’ll be golden.
Yoenis Cespedes – NYM – OF – We know what Cespedes can do, he has been out with a hurt hamstring but he is expected to be back in the lineup. Look for him to take it personal and try to get back in the spotlight and help Syndergaard pick up a win.
