DraftKings NHL GPP Thoughts, Stacks and Cheap Defenseman 1/5

daily fantasy hockey advice

GPP thoughts for 1/5 DraftKings Slate:

Tonight’s slate on Draftings features eight games with four of the games featuring road favorites. Two teams are in really good spots for stacking (Philadelphia & Nashville) and case can be made for Minnesota. For me this slate plays more for cash games and satellites. Never be afraid to drop your cash lineup in satellites, for me this actually preferred. Last night my cash lineup scored 43.8 DK points and I picked up six tickets for the Tuesday Special and 1 for the Frozen Pond.

Top Stacks for 1/5 DraftKings Slates:

PhiladelphiaBen Scrivens will get the start for the Canadians again tonight. While he performed ok in his first start against Florida it was not a good enough performance to not target him here. While Philadelphia has not been good this season I am intrigued with the new line of Voracek, Giroux, and Simmonds. Voracek and Simmonds have shown good chemistry while playing on the second line and the addition of Giroux should be a positive. Add Gostisbehere to this first line and the stack will cost $22,300.

Nashville – Nashville is the largest favorite on the board and while they will probably be higher owned than you would like for a GPP the matchup is to good to avoid completely. Winnipeg has been shorthanded 148 times this season which leads the league, and is also in the bottom three in penalty kill percentage. Nashville should be able to exploit this as they are 8th in league in power play percentage at 20.3%. I will target a first line stack of Foresberg, Ribero, Smith, and Weber for a cost of $20,000. I like stacking this line because you will get exposure to both power play units. Make sure to check Nashville lines during warmups as they have been juggling them as of late.

MinnesotaAnton Forsberg will get his first start of the season for Columbus. Forsberg carries a .871% career save percentage and I will target him and Columbus’ leaky defense until he can prove he is ready to play at this level. Columbus has been shorthanded 144 times this season which is 2nd in league. I will target with a stack of Parise, Koivu, Vanek, and Suter. The cost of $23,600 is palatable given that it gives you complete power play 1 exposure.
Cheap defenseman to use to fill out your stacks:

Dmitry Orlov ($2,900) Washington – Gets power play minutes and will see a bump in minutes with Carlson out.

Zach Trotman ($2,500) Boston – Gets power play minutes and you do not need much more at min price.

Erik Gustafsson ($2,700) Chicago – Gets power play minutes on the same unit as Toews.
