Daily Fantasy Hockey Value Picks – 10/27

DFS, Carey Price, daily fantasy hockey

Each day throughout the NHL season I am going to be recommending players to target in your DFS lineups with the focus on tournament lineups (with DraftKings prices). I will try to avoid posting the obvious plays on a given night — for example Tyler Seguin is almost an automatic play for me every day he plays.

LW – Jonathan Huberdeau ($5,500)  – FLA
The Colorado Avalanche, under Patrick Roy, have not looked good on the ice this season at all. They give up a ton a shots and tonight should be no different. Roy is once again turning to backup goaltender Reto Berra to start. Berra has two exceptional starts for the Avs so far this season but he’s a goalie with a career .906 save percentage. I like Huberdeau a lot at his price tag. With Sasha Barkov out of the lineup with a hand injury the Panthers will be relying heavily on Huberdeau to pick up some of the scoring. Nick Bjugstad moved up to center the first line between Huberdeau and Jaromir Jagr and in their last game together they combined for 6 points vs Dallas. Huberdeau gives you the cheapest exposure to the first line as well as the first PP unit. I expect Florida to score in bunches tonight vs the Avs and Huberdeau should be involved in that.

If you are looking for a cheaper play on the Panthers I also like Vincent Trocheck ($3700) – FLA – C. Trocheck was recently bumped down to the 3rd line but plays with solid wingers in Brandon Pirri and Quinton Howden. Trocheck also stakes on the PP2 unit.

RW – Brett Connolly ($2,800) – BOS
The Bruins play host to the Arizona Coyotes, who defeated the Leafs last night 4-3. The Coyotes are going to Mike Smith again tonight. Smith started out the season very good but his past few performances haven’t been great. I like the Bruins to score several goals tonight. Brett Connolly has been playing on the first line alongside Marchand and Bergeron. He has 3 points in his last three games and will most likely play an upwards of 15-16 minutes tonight. Connolly is a very inexpensive option tonight and is a great GPP play.

C – Alex Wennberg – $3,200 – CBJ
Ryan Johansen remains out of the lineup as he is being tested by doctors to determine what is causing fatigue. We surely hope that everything is okay with Johansen but with him being out of the lineup Wennberg will continue to see a bump up in his playing time. The Blue Jackets are visiting the Devils tonight. Cory Schneider is a very good goalie but I think the Blue Jackets, under Tortorella and his demanding work ethic, will be able to get at least two goals on him tonight. The highly-skilled Wennberg has only played four games this season because of an early concussion. He is playing center on the second line between Scott Hartnell and Cam Atkinson and he is on the 1st PP unit. I doubt Wennberg will be owned by many people tonight so if he is able to get on the scoresheet we will be in good shape.

RW – Jakob Silfverberg ($4,400) – ANA
The Ducks misery continues as they cannot find the back of the net. They have six goals in eight games this season and have shut out FIVE times already. Many people, including myself, have been burned by the Ducks several times this year already and that is why I will continue to roster Ducks until they reap rewards. Silfverberg comes in at a very reasonable price tag and despite his dreadful start is actually a very good hockey player. Silfverberg is only a few months removed from an incredible post-season in which he totalled 18 points in 16 games. He plays on the second line with Jiri Sekac and Ryan Kesler. I expect the Stars to focus on trying to keep Perry and Getzlaf off the scoresheet which will open up the ice more for the Ducks second line.

Other forwards I like tonight: T. Seguin ($8,400), C. Giroux ($6,900), J. Zucker ($3,900), N. Bjugstad ($5,900), R. Spooner ($4,100), Mi. Granlund ($4,400), C. McDavid ($5,600).

D – Adam Larsson ($3,300) – NJD
If you are looking for a cheaper play at defence Adam Larsson is your guy. Larsson plays top minutes and has the skill to get on the scoresheet. The Devils are hosting the Blue Jackets who cannot keep the puck out of their net. Larsson is on the top D pairing next to Andy Greene and is the lone defensemen on the top PP unit.

Other defenseman I like tonight: T. Krug ($5,200), O. Ekman-Larsson ($4,900), J. Klingberg ($4,700), R. Murray ($3,200), C. Parayko ($3,100).

G – Steve Mason ($6,900) – PHI
Mason is playing host to the Sabres tonight and will likely be a highly-owned goaltender tonight but at that price tag he is a great play. Buffalo isn’t close to as bad as last year but with Evander Kane injured their offence isn’t as good as it was to start the year. The Flyers are the home team and are obviously the betting favourite in this matchup. Even if Mason gives up a couple goals he will most likely give you crucial three points for a win.

G – Ondrej Pavelec ($6,500) – WPG
I like the Jets matchup against the LA Kings quite a bit tonight. I think the Jets are the better team and can pull out a win at home. Pavelec I think will be a fairly low-owned goalie tonight and for that reason I really like him in tournaments. The LA Kings are not the most dynamic offensive team so if Pavelec is on his game tonight he could have a great DFS performance.

Other goalies I like tonight: C. Price ($8,500)
(as always check prior to puck drop to make sure that whichever goalie you roster is confirmed to start)

Hope this can be a help to you guys tonight, let’s have a great night in DFS! Feel free to comment and ask questions below or on Twitter (@XNSports, @doshjaniels). Best of luck tonight!
