Jason Heyward, Steve Pearce, and Jake Lamb are fantasy baseball studs.
Baseball’s Opening Day should be a nationally celebrated holiday. But the new season has clearly treated some players better than others.
Jason Heyward reboots his young career — despite playing in his sixth season, one of baseball’s former best prospects is only 25 years old — with a new, well-run franchise. Steve Pearce — the poster-boy of ‘power without playing time’ — looks to finally have secured a full-time position after interning at four organizations in nine years. Jake Lamb — the almost-guaranteed castaway in Arizona following the signing of Cuban third baseman Yasmany Tomas — has battled his way into a roster spot.
For these three players, April could not have come soon enough. Currently combining for 3 HR, 10 RBI, and with an OPS approaching infinity, the trio of Heyward, Pearce, and Lamb would likely have carried any offense to an opening day win.
Since sports always include a linear path from which players never deviate, it’s safe to say that fantasy baseball’s MVP race is three-deep.
