“The Cubs Are Done” and 4 Other Over-Reactions to MLB’s Opening Week

Jon Lester, MLB

The Cubs’ season is over.

Confidence? Excitement? Hope? These are emotions rarely experienced by the typical Cubs’ fan entering a given season. Even when the most optimistic supporter looks for ways its team can beat expectations, there is the underlying tone of impending doom.

Not this year. At least, not before Opening Day.

Fast-forward a few hours later, and the Chicago Cubs are in shambles. The signing of Jon Lester — at one time, considered the key move that would put the team over the edge — is already being called into question. The offense could desperately use a power-hitting bat with RBI-potential to counter its woes with men in scoring position — if only the Cubs knew where to look to fill this void. And the renovations of arguably the most adored stadium in sports are still incomplete to the point that people were actively bashing Wrigley Field.

Wrigley! When the ‘Friendly Confines’ receives criticism, no one is safe.
