6. Doug Marrone, Greg Olson to the Jaguars
When Marrone unexpectedly resigned as head coach of the Bills, I highly doubt he anticipated becoming the Jaguars’ offensive line coach instead. Marrone interviewed with the Jets and was a candidate in Denver, but there’s no question this is a step down from his job in Buffalo, where the Bills showed a lot of promise in 2014.
Well, to cushion the fall, Marrone is now the NFL’s highest-paid offensive line coach.
Also heading to Jacksonville is Olson, who before serving as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator the last two years was the Jags’ quarterbacks coach during the Blaine Gabbert era. However, Olson was given a lot of the credit for the work last year with rookie Derek Carr, and perhaps Gus Bradley believes he can work similar magic with Blake Bortles in his second season.
Over the past nine years, Olson has worked with the likes of Gus Frerotte, Byron Leftwich, Josh Freeman, Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor, among others. In other words, he’s an expert in dealing with bad quarterbacks.
