Injury roundup: Fitzpatrick or Savage next in Houston?
Making just his second career start for Houston, Ryan Mallett went down with an injured right pectoral muscle in warmups then aggravated the injury in the loss to the Bengals. Mallett is set to undergo an MRI to determine if there was a tear, and if so he’ll be done for the year.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely next in line for the Texans, but rookie Tom Savage may not be far behind should the team fall further out of playoff contention.
We’ve already seen what the journeyman Fitzpatrick can do in this Texans offense. If Bill O’Brien elects to start the rookie, he’ll join Derek Carr, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Zach Mettenberger as other first-year quarterbacks to get a start ahead of Johnny Manziel.
