Without further ado, Week 6 in college football.
QB – Michael Brewer, Virginia Tech $5,400
Brewer has struggled at times this year, throwing 10 interceptions and fumbling the ball once. Eleven turnovers is not what you are looking for from your quarterback in real or fake football. But, this week he has an incredible matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels, who are allowing 353 yards per game through the air, which is 127th (out of 128 teams) in the country. North Carolina has allowed 11 passing touchdowns in four games, so Brewer should be able to get past his turnover issues and dominate the Tar Heels’ “secondary” on Saturday.
QB – Tyrone Swoopes, Texas $5,000
Swoopes is just $1,000 over the minimum at quarterback on DraftKings, and he has an excellent matchup against Baylor this weekend. In order for Texas to pull off the upset, Swoopes will have to outscore Baylor. Luckily for Texas, and for those who own Swoopes this weekend in daily fantasy, Baylor’s pass defense is 17th in the country. Why is that good news? It brought Swoopes’ price down, and Baylor has not faced a team near as good as the Longhorns this season. Finding diamonds in the rough in daily fantasy can bring value, and that is exactly what Swoopes is this weekend.
RB – Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin $7,700
Gordon has been running wild, literally, in the last two weeks. In the last two games, he has combined for 45 carries 434 yards and seven touchdowns. That’s an average of 45 fantasy points per week. This week, Wisconsin takes on Northwestern, who have allowed just 2.91 yards per carry. That number is what allows Gordon’s price to be lower than the other top backs, and he should continue his hot streak, regardless of matchup.
RB – Samaje Perine, Oklahoma $5,300
Perine was the backup in Oklahoma to begin the season, but with the injury to Keith Ford, he has been the main back for the Sooners. Last week, Perine carried the ball 34 times for 242 yards and four touchdowns against West Virginia. This week, he takes on a Texas Christian defense who is third in the nation in yards per carry, but with an offensive line that has carried Oklahoma to nearly six yards per carry, TCU’s rushing defense is not as much of a worry.
WR – Nelson Spruce, Colorado $8,400
Spruce has been on another level this season for Colorado. His worst performance this season on DraftKings was 28.7 fantasy points. Last week, he totaled 19 catches for 173 yards and three touchdowns for 57.9 fantasy points. In five games this season, Spruce has caught 56 balls for 697 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is a staple in fantasy lineups everywhere, so don’t miss the boat.
WR – Kevin White, West Virginia $8,200
White is one of the premier wide receivers in college football, and his value on DraftKings certainly backs that up. He is the third-most expensive player, and is averaging the fourth-most fantasy points among receivers. In four games this year, White has accrued 42 catches for 633 yards and three touchdowns. In each game, White has nine or more catches and 100 or more yards. He is as consistent as they come in college football and is worth the hefty price of $8,200.
WR – Cam Phillips, Virginia Tech $3,600
As mentioned above, North Carolina is the second-worst defense in the entire country in terms of passing yards allowed per game, and with Phillips being the cheapest option (among those who play) in the Virginia Tech passing game, he’s worth a flier to catch a touchdown against such a woeful pass defense. He had a two game stretch with 13 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown this season, so the freshman pass-catcher has proven to be a part of the offense.
TE – Cam Serigne, Wake Forest $3,200
Serigne is one of the only consistent options at tight end in college football this year, and it’s worth paying the extra $700 over minimum for his services. In his last four games, Serigne has caught 23 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown. That averages to around 13 fantasy points per game, which would rank first among tight ends on DraftKings this weekend. Get him into your lineups, despite the matchup against Florida State.
FLEX – Sony Michel, Running Back, Georgia $3,200
It’s not often that a backup running back to a Heisman candidate becomes a value play in daily fantasy, but this week is exactly that. Michel will not start, and Todd Gurley will get his fair share of carries, but Michel looks like he will get his time in the second half. The Bulldogs take on Vanderbilt this weekend, and the Commodores are allowing 161.4 yards per game on the ground. Michel and the Bulldogs are averaging over 300 yards per game on the ground, and the Vegas line of Georgia being favored by 33.5 points indicates that Michel will get some work after Georgia takes a big lead.
