Mallett was long rumored to be targeted by Houston, but the Patriots would not budge. Then New England drafted Jimmy Garoppolo to be Tom Brady‘s backup and potentially his successor, so where does that leave the team and Mallett?
Mallett has had a so-so performance in the preseason, completing less than 54 percent of his passes and throwing only one touchdown. He was a top recruit entering college, and many find his big-time arm intriguing.
Mallett is a free agent after the 2014 season, so perhaps the Pats should consider trying to get compensation for him before he walks away.
