It is finally Friday. The weekend is upon us. This will not stop people from freaking out, even in the hockey world. Why does this keep happening? There are lots of reasons. Whether it is injuries, who a team has or has not signed, why a player is still on said team, theories multiply and mushroom.

Fans on message boards provide some excellent bulletin board material and even some fantasy hockey fodder. This will surely scare some readers and experts alike. It is time to have some fun on “Four For The Road”.

Four For The Road

1. There are lots of fantasy hockey magazines out there (digital and hard copy)?

People seem to just freak out like crazy over all the publications that come out projecting this and that. Relax! There is a reason why they call them projections. Yet, that does not seem to matter. I still remember pundits gleefully predicting Sidney Crosby at well over 100 points and closer to 125. Believe me, for every bold prediction that goes well there are eight or ten that go awry. This never fails! I get so many questions from where do I write and for my opinion. I hold one thing sacred. I try to answer any and all questions on social media. Bring them to me!

2. Trade evaluations this time of year are always fun?

This is true but not for the people who post them. Sometimes you just will see proposals that make you wonder. I did see a Martin St. Louis and Henrik Zetterberg deal for Tyler Seguin this week. Now we can protect the names of the innocent that proposed this but it is a keeper league trade offer and that just tips this into the stomach curdling realm. Keep in mind you are talking a very young Seguin for two guys who are past their prime BUT could still produce a little more. If you own Seguin, you DO NOT DO THIS! Now if it was a season only league…..but that is for another time.

3. Which prospect will make a fantasy hockey impact in 2014-15?

Yes this one is very common also. There are so many variables but certain questions have rather easy answers. Now trying to compare Johnny Gaudreau with Henrik Samuelsson is just a bit crazy to say the least. Gaudreau is very close to the NHL while Samuelsson needless to say is more of a project. Please realize that these are questions we get on a daily basis. This is fairly straightforward thankfully. Take Gaudreau and run as he is going to play at some point this upcoming season.

4. What is the limit to amount of leagues one should join?

This is the age old fantasy hockey question. There is also no right or wrong answer here. If you can manage it and stay effective, the limit is up to you. Personally it all depends on timing, the year, and feel. That’s right….feel! Veteran fantasy hockey players can almost judge how many leagues they are going to join. It sounds nuts and yet in most cases it is true. Just remember if you find yourself mixing up leagues, it is a friendly sign that you joined too many. Good luck and thank god it’s Friday!
