World Cup superstar Mats Hummels may very well be on his way to Manchester United. The German center has been tipped to make a move this summer following his World Cup triumph.

Hummels currently plies his trade in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. With Dortmund, Hummels has won the Bundesliga twice, the German domestic cup, and the German Super Cup. Hummels also finished as the runner-up in the 2013 Champions League, when Borussia Dortmund lost to rivals Bayern Munich.

With so much success under his belt in his home country, Hummels may look to try his hand elsewhere.

Hummels has long been considered one of the best center backs in the world. A thought which was only justified when he scored two goals for his country at the World Cup.

Hummels is fearless, a brilliant leader, and an excellent defender. He has also shown he has a goal or two in his locker. He is an absolute nightmare to defend on corners, with his size and speed; he becomes dangerous on set pieces.

Mats Hummels’ fearless nature comes in when he throws himself in front of shots in an attempt to block them. His style of play is similar to that of Nemanja Vidic, who quickly became a fan favorite. He is willing to put his body where others aren’t, and do everything to win. His leadership qualities are also comparable to those of the Serbian defender, as both are more lead by example types.

With the loss of Vidic and Ferdinand, Manchester United are short at the back and need to make signings.

Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and Jonny Evans are the only centerbacks currently on the roster for United.

All three are young and relatively inexperienced in big games. Hummels would be able to bring experience and knowledge to the young defensive line.

Hummels has played in big games and knows how to win them. He is the right man to replace such legends, which United will be losing, and will help ease the transition period.

Manchester United must act during the transfer window and sign someone who will replace Vidic and Ferdinand. Mats Hummels is surely the guy to do so, and the right choice for Louis Van Gaal and his men.
