1. Kansas City Chiefs (11-5)
This is the obvious choice. The Chiefs collapsed down the stretch of 2013 and didn’t do much this offseason to get any better.
As long as Alex Smith is quarterbacking the team, I can’t see the offense every being among the league’s elite. And on the defensive side of the ball — the unit that carried the Chiefs to the top of the AFC midway through last season — regressed each week all the way to the playoffs.
Playing against the Broncos and San Diego Chargers twice this season, the Chiefs are the third-best team in their own division. Going by the quarterback standard, how do you pick Smith over Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers?
