Best Bet
Wade Miley – $11,908
Things have been going well for Miley recently. He pitched seven innings in each of his last two starts, giving up a total of five runs and 10 hits. He also struck out 10 over that time. What is additionally impressive is that he hasn’t put extra runners on base, issuing just one walk in his last 14 innings. He will be facing a familiar foe tonight, as he gets the nod for his fourth time this season against them. He is 0-2 in his first three games, but his most recent one was his most successful. On April 18, he gave up one run on two hits in a no-decision in L.A. The Dodgers have really struggled against lefties this year. They are hitting .215 as a team against them — worse than everyone except the Indians.
Double Down
Chris Young – $12,418
Young continues to churn out the quality starts and pick up wins. On Saturday, he picked up his third win in as many starts, shutting down the Royals over eight innings, allowing just three hits and one run. His season ERA of 2.63 is very good as it is, but that also includes one game in which he gave up four earned runs in three innings. Without that, his ERA would be 1.82 in six games. Opponents are hitting only .183 against him and he owns a 1.06 WHIP. The only downside is that he’s not a big strikeout pitcher, managing more than three strikeouts in a game just once this year. Still, he’s worth it based on his consistency of late. And tonight, he faces a Minnesota team that has scored more than four runs only once in its last 10 games.
Roll the Dice
Alfredo Simon – $8,794
In 43.2 innings this season, Simon is 4-2 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, which includes a rough outing his last time out, when he gave up five runs in three innings. He can get a bit of a pass on that one though, because it came against the Rockies, who have the best offense in all of baseball. Before that game, he had quality starts in all six of his outings, never allowing more than five hits, while averaging nearly seven innings a game. He has a favorable opponent tonight as he looks to get back on track. The Phillies have lost three in a row and seven of nine. And in the last week, they hit only .208 and scored 21 runs, both third-worst in the National League during that time.
