It’s a pretty full slate on Friday night, so there are quite a few options for you as you build your Draftstreet daily fantasy league team. But as you choose your pitchers and budget yourself, make sure to take a closer look at these three.
Best Bet
Scott Feldman – $12,424
Feldman is returning to the Astros’ rotation tonight after a three-week absence while recovering from biceps tendinitis. On Sunday, he threw a 60-pitch, four-inning bullpen session and said he felt good. Now, Houston will hope that he comes back with the same form that he had before his injury. He was excellent in his four starts in April. He had a 2-1 record with a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP. He went at least six innings in each start and didn’t allow a run in two of them, and gave up three or fewer hits three times. So if he’s able to pick up where he left off, he should put up some good numbers. Especially against an Orioles team that has averaged under four runs a game in the past week.
Double Down
Dustin McGowan – $9,001
McGowan probably feels like he is pitching for his job, but it appears it has motivated him. After going through his first four starts of the season with an ERA near 7.00, he has settled down in his last two starts. He gave up two runs on three hits against Kansas City over six innings. The following week, he was even better. In Pittsburgh, he went seven innings, again allowing three hits, but limiting the Pirates to just one run. So, the 32-year-old has seemed to find his rhythm and is working on consecutive quality starts. The Angels will be standing in his way of a third straight. They are just 2-4 in their last six games, and have scored more than three runs just twice, and even then it was only four and five runs.
Roll the Dice
Paul Maholm – $11,245
Maholm’s raw numbers aren’t particularly encouraging so far this year. He owns a 1-2 record with a 4.70 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. However, he has been better as of late. He has three quality starts in his last four outings. What’s also encouraging about his prospects tonight is that he is facing the Giants. It will actually be the third time this season he will oppose the Dodgers’ rivals. The first game in early April marked his first start of the season and he struggled, giving up five runs in 4.1 innings. Not even two weeks later, he bounced back to keep their bats quiet over six innings, allowing one run on five hits. Will the third time be the charm? Well, the Giants are not among the top offenses in the league. Their .241 team average puts them at 22nd in baseball. This is a situation with potential.
