Anaheim Ducks at Los Angeles Kings
Anaheim really hasn’t done anything wrong in this series to date. They haven’t looked flat in their offense, they’ve been able to limit the Kings’ opportunities, and they played a pair of tight games as expected. The difference has been the goaltending of Jonathan Quick as he’s stopped 69 of 72 shots on goal.
The Ducks really took over in the third period of Game 2, though that may have just been the Kings going into a shell. The fact remains that without the stellar goaltending from Jonathan Quick, the series might look a lot different; Anaheim had 21 shot attempts in the third period, Los Angeles had six. There is enough firepower on Anaheim that even if they get down a goal or two, their skill combined with the lack of aggression from Los Angeles could still lead to late goals.
One guy who is on a tear for Los Angeles is defenseman Alec Martinez. He has goals in back to back games and has five points in his last six. He’s being used on the third pairing at even strength which helps him avoid having to play against Ryan Getzlaf’s line. He’s also getting top power play minutes alongside Drew Doughty on Los Angeles’ top unit which is a big bonus.
I don’t expect a lot of scoring. There were only nine goals scored in the first two games and I’m not expecting much more than a 3-2 game. Jonas Hiller would make a good GPP goalie even though I think Los Angeles stands a pretty good chance of winning the game (so I would use Quick in cash games).
