Today, it’s all about matchups in the Draftstreet daily fantasy leagues. There aren’t any obvious value pitching plays tonight, but there are a few guys who have pitched well enough and could shine with these matchups against struggling teams.
Best Bet
Tyler Lyons – $8,379
Lyons has only made two starts this season, and those were the first two of his four appearances. Since then, he’s worked out of the bullpen. In his two starts, he made it through six innings each time, allowing a total of 10 hits and six runs. In his two relief appearances, he’s given up two hits and one run in three innings. He’s averaging nearly a strikeout an inning with a WHIP of 1.13, while opponents are hitting only .214 against him. With a nice matchup tonight, those numbers could be even better. He’ll face the Braves, who have been the worst offense in baseball over the last week. They have managed just 11 runs in six games and have hit .186/.256/.274 as a team.
Double Down
Josh Collmenter – $12,121
Collmenter hasn’t been too bad this year, but he hasn’t been great either. Still, he pitched four shutout innings against Philadelphia two starts ago. He followed that up with a seven-inning outing against Colorado. He gave up four runs in that game, but that’s opposing one of the game’s best offenses so far this year. In each of those games, he gave his team a chance to win, which they did both times. He has an ERA of 3.77 this season, which is slightly higher than his career 3.43 mark. There is definitely an opportunity for him to lower that tonight, though, when he faces the Brewers. Milwaukee has struggled as of late with Ryan Braun out, hitting just .201 in the last seven games and scoring a measly 23 runs.
Roll the Dice
Josh Tomlin – $11,039
Tomlin has yet to see any Major League action this year, but that’s about to change. He’s earned his way to Cleveland after a solid month with Triple-A Columbus. In five starts, he put up a 2-1 record with a 2.06 ERA and 28 strikeout over 35 innings. He was even named the International League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period prior to him being promoted. He has a very friendly opponent to make his seaso debut against. He gets the Twins, who have been the second-worst offense in the American League over the last week. They hit just .239 in six games, while scoring only 22 runs.
