New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers – PHI wins 5-2, Series tied 3-3
The Flyers would get the opening goal on the power play thanks to Wayne Simmonds. After some good pressure for the bulk of the power play, Simmonds was able to bang home a rebound past Henrik Lundqvist for the 1-0 lead.
Simmonds would give the Flyers a 2-0 lead in the second period less than two minutes in. A Brayden Schenn shot, off a Dan Girardi turnover, would rebound to Simmonds who again would make no mistake. Out of the penalty box with a bit under six minutes left in the second, Erik Gustafsson would get breakaway. With the puck on edge, Gustafsson snapped it through the five-hold of Lundqvist for the 3-0 lead. Simmonds would get his hat trick goal and on a backdoor high-to-low play. Jakub Voracek made a nice seam pass to Simmonds who was standing next to the post for the redirection and the 4-0 lead.
Carl Hagelin would corral a loose puck to the right of Steve Mason to cut the lead to 4-1. Claude Giroux would extend the lead to four goals against with an empty netter as Cam Talbot (who had replaced Lundqvist) was pulled with a little under 4:40 left in the period. Mats Zuccarello would add one late for the Rangers but the series will be heading back to New York for Game 7 tomorrow.
