Unlike yesterday when the MLB slate was so light there were few Draftstreet value pitching options to be found, there are a few tonight who are worth considering. You could do a lot worse than putting any of these pitchers in your lineup today.
Best Bet
Jarred Cosart – $10,452
Cosart bounced back nicely from his worst start of the season when he gave up seven runs but only recorded one out against the A’s. He fell one out shy of finishing seven innings, and ended up allowing two runs on four hits to Seattle. It marked the third time this season he had given up three or fewer runs. Tonight, he’ll face the Nationals in what will be his first ever start against a National League team. Washington has had a decent offense this season, but the team just lost arguably their best hitter in Bryce Harper. He’ll be out for at least two months because of a torn ligament in his thumb.
Double Down
Tyler Chatwood – $10,999
So far this year, Chatwood has been lights out against any team outside of the Giants. Granted, that’s a bit misleading in the sense that he has three starts and only one of them hasn’t come against San Francisco. In his two starts against the Giants, he has thrown 12 innings and allowed nine runs. However, his other start came against the Phillies and went seven innings, allowing one run on just two hits. So now, his start today comes against the Diamondbacks, a team that has done little but struggle this year. They are just 8-21 and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. And Arizona hitters have a penchant for striking out, ranking in the top 10 in the Majors in that category.
Roll the Dice
Chris Young – $8,894
Young landed in Seattle after a 2013 season in which he struggled in the minors and suffered through injury problems. But the journeyman lefty has shown shades of the form that earned him an all-star nod in 2007. He owns a 3.50 ERA so far, but is still looking for his first decision. He has made three starts this year, with two of them of the quality variety. He’s only had one rough outing, and that came against the Marlins when he gave up four runs in three innings. Otherwise, he’s been pretty good. The Yankees, who will be Young’s opponent today, are coming off a three-game series against the Angels in which they only scored eight total runs. With Young’s decent start to the year and New York’s cold bats at the moment, this could be a way to pick up a few points while starting the least expensive starter on the day.
