One way to destroy your draft stock with less than a month to go is to get arrested, and that’s exactly what happened to former Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby.
Roby was arrested Sunday for operating a vehicle while impaired, according to WBNS-10TV in Columbus, Ohio. Roby had been previously arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in July of 2013.
Officers were dispatched to the scene of a person passed out behind the wheel of a car. When they arrived, the officers were unable to get Roby’s attention, per the report. After opening the unlocked door, officers reported the smell of alcohol. Roby then failed a field sobriety test.
Roby’s agent, Michael Perrett, disputed the police allegations. Here’s the statement he released:
“Bradley was sitting in his parked car in a parking lot when he was approached and questioned by an officer. He was fully cooperative and willingly submitted to field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. His BAC test registered a negligible .008 and after further testing at the police station, he was very quickly released on his own recognizance. There are no other charges, and we are confident that this matter will be resolved quickly and favorably for Bradley.”
Roby was previously arrested at the beginning of his junior year at Ohio State for his involvement in a bar fight, but charges were later dismissed. The incident cost Roby the 2013 season opener.
The second off-the-field incident for Roby in less than a year “certainly kills any chances of the Jets taking him” with the 18th overall pick, ESPN New York reported.
That is likely the case with any other teams that were considering drafting Roby, who is projected to land 25th to the San Diego Chargers in the XN Sports Mock Draft 2.0. Roby is one of the 30 prospects who will attend the NFL Draft next month at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, but his latest brush-in with the law may cause him to have to wait a little bit longer before his name is called.
