Chicago Blackhawks at St. Louis Blues
The Blackhawks were able to squeak out a win in overtime over the Blues in Game 4 to tie the series and make this round a best-of-three.
The most noticeable aspect for the Blackhawks in the last game between these two teams was the dominance of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. There were stretches when the ‘Hawks couldn’t get anything going offensively and these two seemed to be the only ones creating offense regularly. With the possibility that David Backes return for Game 5, though, I wonder if these two don’t get separated (as they did at times in Game 4).
The Blues just couldn’t hold the lead against the Blackhawks in the third period and it cost them. If Backes doesn’t come back, this team will be really hurting for depth: Vladimir Sobotka seemed a little woozy after a big hit in Game 4 (though he kept playing) and Patrik Berglund is just coming back off of injury and doesn’t look quite right. The only guy on this team that has been reliable offensively is Vladimir Tarasenko.
Both power plays have been fairly ineffective as the Blues are 2-for-21 this series while the ‘Hawks are just 2-for-16. Both goalies have been good at times but I don’t see a deciding factor either way in this one. I’d rather just avoid the goalies and go with the guys that are riding hot from either team right now.
