St. Louis Blues at Chicago Blackhawks – STL Leads 2-0
The Blues are up in the series 2-0 but of course the big storyline is what happened towards the end of Game 2.
Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook kind of blindsided St. Louis captain David Backes towards the end of Game 2. Backes was seemingly unconscious on the ice, and Seabrook was given a five minute major and was ejected from the game. The latest update we have is that Seabrook earned a three-game suspension with his hit, so he is out for Game 3, 4, and 5. Also, David Backes traveled with the team to Chicago but did not take part in the morning skate today. He is thus unlikely to play tonight.
The silver lining for the Blues in this is that one of Chicago’s top two defensemen is gone for over half of the remainder of the series. Also, Patrik Berglund returned from injury today and was skating on a regular line for the Blues. Backes is a loss for the Blues, but of all their positions, they probably have the most depth at center with Berglund back. After Backes went out with an injury, Steve Ott was his replacement on the top line with T.J. Oshie and Alex Steen.
This should be another very tough game and I would refrain from stacking either side or using either goalie. I would also wait to see how the lineups shake out for St. Louis, so I would check Daily Faceoff a couple of hours before lineups lock.
