Daily Fanasy Hockey DFS Value Update – April 17

Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche

The Wild come into this game having to rely on Ilya Bryzgalov in net. For the uninitiated, he’s been absolutely terrible in the playoffs since his Anaheim days, posting an .892 save percentage over his last 22 playoff games between Phoenix and Philadelphia. I can’t rely on a goalie like that and it makes it difficult to rely on a team that is relying on a goalie like that.

The Wild should be getting Mikael Granlund back tonight and that really helps them balance their top two lines. The power play was ice cold for the last three weeks of the season so I would be looking to Minnesota’s second line (Granlund’s line with Matt Moulson and Jason Pominville) for DFS points and not the top line. They are cheaper and there’s little added power play value.

Colorado will be without Matt Duchene and that’s a very big loss for them. Also, defensemen Jan Hejda and Tyson Barrie will both be playing, but there are concerns as to how healthy they really are. I would expect the Stastny line to get Mikko Koivu’s line matched against them, so I will be looking lower in the lineup for value.

There were only 25 total goals in the five games these two teams played this year, so a low-scoring 3-2 or 2-1 game seems very likely. I think the difference in this game ends up being Semyon Varlamov, so I don’t mind him in net in any type of game. I won’t be targeting high-priced players, though.
