Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – April 12

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers

This is the final game of the season for Edmonton (the Canucks play the Flames on Sunday). It’s also going to be the final game of Ryan Smyth’s career, as he officially announced yesterday that he will be retiring after this season is over. While never a true superstar, he was a very good player for the Oilers when he was in his prime and I wonder if the Oilers don’t play with a little bit of extra energy with hopes of sending off one of the franchise’s most important players of the last 20 years.

Vancouver has lost five of their last six games and truly this team has seemingly given up. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod in net as Eddie Lack played every game post-Olympic break up until their last one when Jacob Markstrom got the nod. The team is playing better defensively by allowing 28 or fewer shots on goal in five of their last six games, but they aren’t scoring so the upside for their goaltending is a little bit limited.

Edmonton hasn’t managed more than 28 shots on goal in four straight games so if this team isn’t playing inspired hockey for Ryan Smyth, I don’t know how much they contribute in the DFS game tonight. I’m very wary of this team having their head in the game tonight.

The last three games between these two teams has only seen 13 total goals for so it seems like it’s best to avoid all but the cheap players for 50/50 games in this one. I would also keep an eye on who starts, because I do like whoever is in net for Vancouver tonight.
