San Jose Sharks at Phoenix Coyotes
A few days ago, this game would have had a lot of meaning for both teams. Now, the Sharks can’t catch Anaheim for first in the division and the Coyotes were eliminated from the playoffs last night by virtue of the Dallas Stars’ win. This game now means absolutely nothing to both teams.
San Jose will most definitely be in “rest” mode seeing as this is the last game of the year and there is nothing to play for. I would just avoid this team altogether tonight as there could be 3-4 healthy scratches among their elite players.
Phoenix really stumbled down the stretch by losing six games in a row and missing the playoffs as a result. Part of this could be the loss of Mike Smith, but the team only scored 12 goals in the eight games after Smith went out with an injury so I would think this is on the team, not on the goalies.
I would say that throwing all previous game information for this one out the window is prudent. There’s just no way to gauge the Sharks lineup tonight. I’ll take a couple of Phoenix players for 50/50 games but that is about it.
