Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers
The Hurricanes are a very average team but one thing they have not done of late is give up many goals; in their last 10 games, the team has only given up 20 goals against. The bulk of these games have been started by Anton Khudobin, who has a very stout .937 save percentage since March 1st. The offense hasn’t been explosive but the third line is pretty interesting here, as Jeff Skinner has five goals and three assists in his last seven games. This would provide a bit of value to his line mates, though I’m not sure I’m a big fan of their match-up with the Derick Brassard line in this game.
With New Jersey’s loss last night, the Rangers have solidified themselves a playoff spot, though which spot it will be is still up for grabs.
New York has gone just 2-2-1 in their last five games and that has been against some pretty bad competition; the only playoff team in that mix was Colorado and they lost to the Avalanche in a shootout. One problem this team has had is limiting shots on goal, as the team has averaged just over 35 shots on goal against in their last three games. The power play is ice cold as well, with just three goals in their last 12 games.
Cam Ward and his .896 save percentage are confirmed to start for the Hurricanes and that makes me lean to the Rangers. There has only been 16 goals in the five games this year with no more than six in any of them, so I would advise against a stack. There are some nice cheap options for 50/50s, though.
