 Colorado Avalanche at Edmonton Oilers

Colorado had won six straight before a shootout loss in Pittsburgh on Sunday with the Penguins sitting everyone of note. Colorado still has something to play for, as the difference between first and second in the division (they are four points back of St. Louis) means the difference between Chicago or one of Phoenix/Minnesota/Dallas in the first round. Their skill players shouldn’t have much trouble generating offense against the young Oilers defense. Also, their power play has converted four times in their last five games, while the Oilers penalty kill has given up seven goals against in their last seven games.

The Oilers top line of Taylor HallRyan Nugent-HopkinsJordan Eberle is the only consideration from this team. I suppose that whoever gets the start in net for the Oilers could be a decent GPP option, but I really think with the Avalanche needing wins, we’ll see a good effort tonight.

Towards the end of their last game, Colorado put Paul Stastny, Nathan MacKinnon, and Gabriel Landeskog together. With the team seemingly in a win-at-all-costs mode right now, a stack of those three might not be a bad idea. Even if they are broken up at even strength, they still play the power play together.
