Pittsburgh Penguins at Colorado Avalanche
The Penguins were shutout yesterday against Minnesota and that made six times in their last eight games that the team had scored two goals or less. Long gone are the high-flying Penguins until they get fully healthy again. The team is just 1-for-18 in their last six games on the power play as well. Beau Bennett did manage to last the entire game on the top line with Sidney Crosby so there are still value opportunities here. This will make four games in six nights with the last three on the roads as well. I don’t see them as a very good bet right now.
The Avalanche have won six games in a row and scored 19 goals in those six games. There are games against San Jose, New York Rangers, and St. Louis in there so they have been playing some of the top teams in the league in this streak. The team has scored four power play goals in their last four games and have gone three straight without giving up a power play goal against. In six of their last eight games, they have allowed 31 shots or fewer against. This game also makes four in six nights for this team, so it’s a wonder how much they will have in the tank.
With both teams perhaps a little fatigued, this game might be defense optional. There’s probably going to be a good market of goals to provide value to the skaters from both sides in this one, with a slight lean to Colorado. I don’t think I’m stacking either side, though.
