Dallas Stars at Florida Panthers
Dallas has been on an absolute tear offensively of late with 22 goals in their last five games and 21 goals in their last four wins overall. What’s curious about that is that the team is just 1-for-16 on the power play over those five games and shot an amazing 14.3-percent. One problem they have had is the penalty kill has given up four goals against in their last four games. Thankfully, Florida is the worst power play team in the NHL so it shouldn’t be too much of a factor for the Stars today. Valeri Nichushkin lasted another game on the top line, so I think it’s fair to say he’ll be sticking there for the foreseeable future. Also, with Erik Cole back, he has replaced Ray Whitney on the top power play unit.
Florida has lost five straight games in regulation, scoring just seven goals over that stretch of games and allowing 19. At this point, there’s not a whole lot to get excited about with this team. They had stretches where they were scoring enough goals to be relevant but that’s just not the case anymore. The team is pretty bad an inconsistent so I would rather just avoid them for the most part for the rest of the season. The only play here for this team today would be whoever gets the start in net for GPP games.
Despite the different directions these teams are going in, I will hesitate to stack Dallas today. I will say that I might have a Dallas stack in one of my GPPs but not the majority of them; I just cannot trust a team playing back to back nights on the road, regardless of the talent level of their opponent.
