Calgary Flames at Tampa Bay Lightning
I guess the Flames’ run is kind of over, as they’ve lost three of four in regulation since going 8-5 in the first 13 games of March. One thing this team is doing (and they’ll need to continue to do it to be successful tonight) is not take penalties; the Flames have gone eight straight games giving up two power plays or fewer (though they are just killing at a 79-percent rate over that stretch). The power play is just 1-for-14 over the team’s last six games.
One thing Tampa is doing that they’ll want to maintain is drawing penalties, as the team has averaged five power play opportunities per game over their last eight games. If their team speed proves too much for the Flames, they’ll put a hammering on them on the scoreboard: In those 40 power play opportunities over the last eight games, the team has converted 12 (a 30-percent clip). One interesting name is J.T. Brown, as he’s found his way to Steven Stamkos’ even strength line. That’s a good place to be.
I think there’s a good change Tampa really puts a hurt on Calgary tonight. They played them in Calgary in January and shut them out 2-0, holding them to just 19 shots, and that was without Stamkos. Stream away, my friends.
