Boston Bruins at Detroit Red Wings
It’s been over a month since the Bruins last loss in regulation and they have just one total loss in the last 31 days overall. Here are the numbers: Three power play goals against in their last 15 games; 21.2-percent power play efficiency since March 1st; allowed just 21 goals against in their last 16 games; Chad Johnson and Tuukka Rask have combined for a .946 save percentage since the first of March. Any way this streak is cut or sliced, the Bruins have been absolutely dominant. Oh, and team captain Patrice Bergeron has an eight-game point streak, a seven-game goal scoring streak and has his highest goal total on a season (27) since 2005-2006 (31).
Detroit hasn’t allowed more than 30 shots against in six straight games and all of their team defense will be necessary to stop the juggernaut that is the Boston Bruins. The team hasn’t had more than 33 shots on goal in any of their last 10 games. Essentially, the Wings are treading water right now but considering how some teams have played around them, it’s helped them solidify their playoff position. The team has also gone three games in a row without giving up a power play goal against after allowing seven such goals against in their previous six games.
In three games against the Bruins this year, the Red Wings have only allowed five goals against, averaging just 28 shots against in those three games. I expect this one to be a close game and that’s not good news for relying on a goaltender. Patrice Bergeron’s price is out of control but his line mates are a little more sensible.
