Winnipeg Jets at Dallas Stars
Winnipeg has fallen out of the playoff race (that they were in against Dallas) so now it’s just a matter of playing with pride. In net, Al Montoya will be making his sixth straight start with Ondrej Pavelec on the shelf. Dustin Byfuglien has returned for the team but news today out of the Jets morning skate was that Andrew Ladd did not take part in practice. While they have the wingers to make up the difference, it can really mess up the chemistry for a centre like Bryan Little to skate with a new winger after having the same one for the last two years. Between the way the team has been playing for the last couple of weeks and potential significant injuries for tonight, I don’t have much confidence on this team.
With a win tonight, the Dallas Stars could be back in a playoff spot. That should be enough incentive to see a very good effort tonight.
The top line has seen Valeri Nichushki, Rich Peverley, Alex Chiasson, and even Ryan Garbutt at times. Of late – and by late I mean their last game – the Stars put Nichushkin on the top line and he managed to stay there for the whole game (that had been rare of late). If he can stay there, he could start to return a lot of DFS value quickly. I would focus on the even strength players, too, as the team has gone just 1-for-13 in their last five games.
A week ago, the Stars got beat down by the Jets 7-2 in Winnipeg. I expect a much different contest here tonight. While Montoya hasn’t been a sieve, the team hasn’t been that great offensively around him. I don’t know if I really want to spend the money on the big guys, but there are some good value plays for the Stars tonight.
