Toronto Maple Leafs at New Jersey Devils
Sound the alarm.
The Leafs have dropped five of their last six games in regulation and their lead on ninth place (and out of the playoffs) has dwindled down from six points to one point. If there was ever a “stop the bleeding” game, this is it.
The nice thing about the Leafs is that even when they are blowing it on the ice, they still manage to score goals; in their last six games (1-5-0), the team has still managed to score 2.5 goals per game so they are providing some DFS value. The top line of Tyler Bozak, Phil Kessel, and James van Riemsdyk has gone somewhat cold, though, and the slack is being picked up by the second line, namely Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul.
Much like the Leafs, the Devils have started to play themselves right out of a playoff spot by losing four of their last five games in regulation. Just like Toronto, this is a “stop the bleeding” game if there ever was one. A loss here, and New Jersey would be at least six points back of the final playoff spot with 10 games to go. The big problem for the Devils has been goal scoring, as the team has managed just 10 goals in their last six games and have been shut out twice along the way.
Two desperate teams like this could mean not very much offense. With players so afraid to make a mistake and thus likely clamping down defensively, I’m not sure if there are a lot of goals tonight. I don’t have a very good read on the game personally so I will probably just avoid it completely.
