Washington Capitals at Los Angeles Kings
Washington has won three games in a row and took the first game of the California road trip 3-2 from Anaheim. Of course, in two of those three wins, the Caps were absolutely blown out of the water on the shot clock as they have a minus-41 differential over their last three games. Streaks are a heck of a thing and the Caps are rolling pretty good right now.
Jaroslav Halak saw his save percentage with Washington jump up to .931 after the last game and he’ll need a lot more of that if the team hopes to win tonight. Another player that’s pretty hot right now is Joel Ward as he’s scored in three straight games (four points overall) to manage the first 20-goal season of his career.
Following their seven game winning streak coming out of the Olympics, the Kings have now lost three straight games, all to teams they probably should beat (Anaheim, Phoenix, Toronto). The team has only scored nine goals in their last four games, so it seems they are back to their old “we can’t score to save our lives” ways of the pre-Olympic era of their season. Interestingly enough, though, this team has scored seven power play goals in their last eight games (and have only given up three in return).
These two teams haven’t met yet this year but it seems like they are on a collision course for a 2-1 or 3-2 game. There is the off-chance that the Kings light them up tonight, but I’d rather wait to see them break out of their slump before risking a stack in a 50/50. I’ll just look for value skaters otherwise and stay away from the goaltenders.
