Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 20

Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings

Pittsburgh broke out for five goals in their last game, welcoming back Chris Kunitz and James Neal in the meantime. With this team starting to get healthy – they are still missing some prominent defensemen – they may be rounding into form a bit now. The curious problem with this team right now is the fact that they’ve scored zero power play goals in their last four game (0-for-14). This is the longest such streak for this team and while I don’t normally like to play the “they’re due” game, it seems as though they are due for a power play goal or two.

Detroit might only be one point back of a playoff spot, but it’s unlikely they’ll reach the postseason as the roster is currently constructed. Their last game (a win over Toronto, actually) saw eleven AHL players suit up in the lineup. They were essentially missing 10 forwards that would be on the NHL roster and that’s not good enough against most teams to win consistently. They have also given up power play goals in back to back games so it would seem as though they are prime for a big loss sometime soon. They’ve averaged under 25 shots on goal in their last three games as well.

The only game these two teams have played this year was a 4-1 win for the Penguins. While Pittsburgh failed to score on the power play in that game, they did draw five penalties. If that happens again tonight, they could fill the net.

I would say this is a good game for a Pittsburgh stack but the other games tonight don’t provide other cheap stacks to make one from this game work. I would rather rely on a player or two for my 50/50 games and may even stick Marc-Andre Fleury in net for those games as well.
