Nashville Predators at Vancouver Canucks
The Predators went into Edmonton last night and got shelled 5-1. That gives Nashville a (-7) goal differential in their last two games. For the month of March, this team has scored one goal or fewer in six of nine games. The power play is also just 2-for-29 this month, or a paltry 6.9-percent efficiency this month (as a result, they have fallen out of the top 10 most efficient power plays this year). Goaltender Pekka Rinne was pulled in the game last night as well and that puts tonight’s starter up in the air a little bit. The team is just 1-3-2 in the second of back to back games since January 1st and the lone win came against the Buffalo Sabres.
For all the problems this team has had, the Vancouver Canucks are finding ways to win hockey games once in a while. It’s not exceptional, but the team is 3-3 over their last six games (including that ridiculous meltdown against the Islanders). The team has scored 17 goals in those six games, or at a rate of about a goal per game more than they had for the three months before that.
Alex Burrows has been absolutely on fire for the Canucks of late with five goals and four assists in his last five games. To add to that, Henrik Sedin has points in back to back games for the first time since January 4th and 5th (ouch).
I will wait to see who starts for Nashville but my favourite stack for tonight is the first line from Vancouver (I can’t believe I just typed that). I don’t know that there will be a lot of goals scored tonight, though, so Eddie Lack is probably the best play in net of the four games this evening.
