St. Louis Blues at Chicago Blackhawks
The only team hotter than the Blues right now might be Boston; St. Louis has gone 8-0-1 this month and have allowed more than two goals in just one of those games. The penalty kill has allowed just two goals over those nine games while the power play has managed three goals in their last five games (just three in 11 games before that). With Vladimir Tarasenko out until the playoffs and T.J. Oshie returning to the lineup, word has it that Oshie, Vladimir Sobotka and Dmitrij Jaskin will be the Blues second line. That provides a really good value opportunity for Jaskin in GPPs.
The Blackhawks were in Philadelphia last night and lost 3-2 in overtime, the team’s third loss in four games. That also makes four out of the last five games that this team has scored fewer than three goals. The power play is also just 1-for-17 in those five games. Let’s not get crazy here, though: this team has won the possession battle in seven of their last eight games (the only one they lost happened to be last night against Philadelphia). This is a team going through a little bit of a dry spell offensively, but they are definitely not playing bad hockey.
St. Louis already has three wins against Chicago this year but two of those were in a shootout and the third was a 3-2 squeaker. In other words, these two teams are fairly evenly-matched.
The last game these two teams played saw the Toews line get matched against the Backes line and the result was just one goal between the two lines out of 10 goals scored in the game (Toews did add another one when he was mixed in with the Patrick Kane line). In other words, these two lines are probably pretty good at shutting each other down. I do like some of the DFS plays from these teams tonight but would rather take players further down the depth chart.
