Dallas Stars at Winnipeg Jets
Dallas has had a pretty emotional week between the collapse of Rich Peverley on the bench, the subsequent overtime thriller with St. Louis the next day, then losing to the lowly Calgary Flames in a shootout at home. On the brighter side of things, Valeri Nichushkin didn’t look out of place at all back on the top line for Dallas so that’s great news for DFS players.
After a 1-for-26 stretch on the power play from Jan 30 – Mar 1, the Stars power play is now 7-for-21 in their last six games. While the penalty kill has given up four goals in their last five games, the power play is absolutely on fire right now. Tim Thomas should get the start in net for Dallas again and he’s looked pretty good for them early on, going 2-0-1 in his three games and allowed just five goals in those three contests.
Winnipeg has gone winless in their last six games so maybe we can hold off on those “Ondrej Pavelec has turned things around” articles for a while. It’ll be Al Montoya in net for Winnipeg today and he’s been very good for the Jets this year, posting a .924 save percentage in his 21 appearances this year for them. The team just has not been able to score enough goals lately to overcome the goaltending problems. They’re losing a lot of close games (they haven’t lost by more than 2 since January 4th) but that doesn’t help a team get to the playoffs.
The last time Dallas went into Winnipeg (December 14), the Stars put up a 6-spot and skated away with two points. I think this game is a little more low-scoring but the Stars will end up taking this one. I like their top line as a stack play and may even go with Timmy T in net for my 50/50s.
