Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks
The list of Detroit Red Wings currently out with injury is something else. Names like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Jurco, Helm, Cleary, Bertuzzi, among others, is just an indication of how so many things went so horribly wrong for this team this year. They essentially have a second line comprised of AHL players and Daniel Alfredsson has gone six straight games without a point. All in all, it is not a pretty scene for the Red Wings and their fans right now.
Detroit is just 2-3-1 this month and one of their two wins was in a shootout against Edmonton (ouch). One bright spot has been the penalty kill; their PK has gone 23-for-24 over their last eight games. They’ll need their PKers to be at their best today against Chicago.
The Blackhawks have gone 3-4-0 since the Olympics and it’s been a tale of two teams: the team has scored 13 goals and allowed just three against in their wins; Chicago has also scored just seven goals and allowed 12 against in their four losses. This team has seen a bit of a lineup shuffle since Marian Hossa went down with an injury and that has brought Kris Versteeg to the top line with Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad. Because of his performance for most of the season, Versteeg still carries a more-than-reasonable price tag in DFS.
These two teams have met just once this year (thanks Obama) and the result was a 5-4 shootout win for Detroit back in January. That was a different team then than it is now, though. I expect the Blackhawks to fill the net on this one so I would look in their direction for a GPP stack. I still have no faith in their goaltending though so I would just stick to the skaters.
