Columbus Blue Jackets at Minnesota Wild
Columbus has just one regulation loss in March (5-1-1) and the lone regulation knock was against Chicago and there’s no shame in that one. Despite scoring just eight goals in their last three games, the team has averaged 37 shots on goal in those games so it’s just a matter of time before they really break through. Their power play (even though it wasn’t hugely DFS relevant) has gone cold of late, going scoreless in their last 15 chances in the last four contests. One of the best values remains Matt Calvert who is on their “first” line with Nathan Horton and Brandon Dubinsky.
The Wild snapped a three game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Rangers on Thursday night. This is one tough team to figure out: One night, each of the top two scoring lines look unstoppable, the next they are pedestrian. They have maintained a strong puck possession game in their last five games out but it’s just not translating to regular wins. Of note is that by the end of that Rangers game, it was Nino Niederreiter and not Charlie Coyle playing alongside Mikko Koivu and Matt Moulson. Considering Niederreiter’s price, there is value here.
This seems like another coin flip game to me. Neither team is playing elite hockey lately but neither team has been bad either. Minnesota went to Columbus back in December and got filled 4-0 and outshot 41-20. That was on a back to back though so I expect a closer game here. Again, I will pick apart some players for cash games but will leave the goalies alone.
