St. Louis Blues at Nashville Predators
The Blues have gone 6-0-1 in the month of March and still haven’t given up more than three goals against in any of those games (and it happened in their only loss, 3-2 in overtime to Dallas). The team defense has been the name of the game as they have not allowed more than 30 shots in any of those seven games and five of them featured 25 shots against or fewer. The special teams have had a say in this, more specifically the penalty kill that has gone along with a 91-percent efficiency this month. Also, Jaden Schwartz and Alex Pietrangelo may be getting on hot streaks (maybe).
Nashville has won three games in a row, all on the road (one against Chicago). In other words, they have been playing some pretty good hockey lately. Of course, Pekka Rinne has had a big say in that as he’s allowed just six goals against on his last 106 shots (.943 save percentage). That latest win came last night though and back to back games, especially against elite teams, is a tall task. They are also 0-2-1 in their three back to back games in 2014, scoring just five goals along the way.
The Blues are 4-0 against the Predators this year and have outscored them 15-7 along the way. I would avoid stacking in this game but I do think the Blues skate away with this one and that makes goalie Ryan Miller a decent play tonight. I’m also going to ride Pietrangelo’s hot streak until he disappoints me.
