Buffalo Sabres at New York Islanders
In what could be deemed Saturday’s Sadness Bowl, the worst team in the NHL visits another one-of-the-worst-teams-in-the-league.
Buffalo has lost four games in a row and while the goaltending has been good (.928 save percentage in those four games), the offense has been nearly non-existent with just four goals in those contests. It’s been struggling so hard in fact that this team has managed more than 25 shots on goals just once in their eight games since Sochi and it was their first game out of the break when they managed 26. In short, other than a value play to make a stack work, these aren’t the skaters you’re looking for.
The Islanders played last night and managed a close 4-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The top line of Anders Lee/Frans Nielsen/Kyle Okposo did most of the damage and are really the only forwards off that team to take seriously in DFS. On the point, Calvin de Haan has played very well for this team over the last couple of months but just hasn’t been producing enough to be relevant. Well, he’s on the top power play unit now and has averaged three shots on goal (and over 20 minutes of ice time) over his last two games.
This isn’t a great match-up and it’s really a toss-up on which way to go. I would gamble with a mini-stack on the Islanders but even then, the Buffalo goaltending scares me. Other than cheap value plays, I’d rather just stay away from this game altogether.
