New Jersey Devils at Tampa Bay Lightning
The Devils were in Florida last night and managed to lose to the Panthers 5-3, the second time the Devils have given up at least five goals against in their last four games. The power play has gone off at 25-percent in their last five games but the penalty kill has given up more than the power play has scored (four and three, respectively). The team has hit a bad stretch of save percentage against which has caused the losses. On the bright side, the starter in net should be Martin Brodeur and he’s given up just nine goals against in his last four starts, winning all four games.
Tampa Bay got on the right track in their last game with a 5-4 win over Florida, a game where Steven Stamkos scored his first goal since returning from injury. The lines have been shuffled a bit since his return and he now finds himself on a line with Tyler Johnson, a centre who is in the mix for Rookie of the Year. Of course, no team stands much of a chance at winning unless their goaltending is stellar and Ben Bishop 10 goals on his last 79 shots against, good for a very meager .873 save percentage.
These two teams have met twice this year and the Lightning have only managed one goal against. The Devils are 0-3-2 in their last five games when on the second of a back to back, so it’s a pretty safe bet that this older team is slowing down a bit. Tampa Bay is rested and should be hungry for two points so I expect quite a few goals from them. I might be shy to stack them outright, but Bishop should be fine in net and I will be picking at some players for my cash games.
