Ottawa Senators at Montreal Canadiens
Ottawa has gone just 2-3-1 since the Olympic break and are watching their playoff hopes slide into oblivion. The team has just been bad defensively, giving up at least 40 shots against in half of their previous 10 games and in their last two. The team is allowing a lot of goals of late as they have averaged 3.5 goals against in their last four games and 3.67 on average since the Olympics. They have mixed and matched their lines but nothing is really helping this team at the moment. Besides the goals against for the team, Ales Hemsky has been on an absolute tear since coming to Ottawa at the trade deadline with six assists in three games alongside Jason Spezza.
The Habs have lost three straight games and have managed just three goals in those contests. Part of the slide has been the play of back-up goalie Peter Budaj as he’s managed just an .869 save percentage in his last seven games. The team needs Carey Price back but it may not happen in this one. The other big news for the team is that Lars Eller has been reunited with Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher. That line was dominant for the first 10 games of the season until they were broken up. Because of recent play, there is some DFS value in that trio.
The Sens have taken two of three against the Habs this year though two of those three games went to overtime. These teams are fairly evenly matched – especially if Carey Price isn’t ready to go – so I expect a pretty close game. Like the games previous, I would avoid the goaltenders and look to the skaters for some value in 50/50 games. I would have a particular focus on the respective power plays, as well.
