Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers
The Penguins have won three games in a row but it hasn’t been by their typical fashion. Those three wins have seen the Penguins score a total of seven goals with two of those on the power play. To make matters worse – as if they aren’t injured enough – it was released yesterday that Evgeni Malkin’s winger, James Neal, will be out indefinitely with a concussion. This team was struggling enough to find wingers as it was, they can ill afford to lose one of the top scoring wingers in the league. On top of that, Chris Kunitz missed a couple of practices before taking part in one yesterday. His status is still up in the air.
The Flyers have lost back to back games (one in extra time) and right now they find themselves in a tie for the final playoff spot. There is no doubt that this team can score – they have 22 goals in the six games since Sochi – but they also can’t keep the puck out of their net as evidenced by the 23 goals against in the six games since Sochi. The Claude Giroux line has been on fire over their last few games but the rest of the team isn’t scoring. It makes it nice for DFS because if they do light up a team, we know where it’s probably going to come from. It’s kind of not nice for DFS because if they don’t light up a team, almost no one else but the Giroux line has much for consistent value.
Each team has taken a game against each other so far this year and each of those wins came in the opposition’s barn. The Crosby line has typically matched up against the Giroux line and the result is neither line has scored at even strength against each other this year. Like the previous game, I would avoid the goaltenders and pick apart the players for cash games.
