Toronto Maple Leafs at Los Angeles Kings
Any regular readers of this column knew that the Leafs stood a decent chance of a win against Anaheim on Monday. Readers should have also expected Toronto to get their face kicked in on Tuesday against San Jose. It’ll be a lot more like the San Jose game tonight: Toronto was outshot by 48 total shots against those two teams and tonight they get the top puck possession team in the NHL. The best chance for the Maple Leafs tonight is a 40-plus save performance from Jonathan Bernier and I don’t like to rely on goalies that will be facing that much rubber.
Los Angeles also leads the league in puck possession when up by two or more goals. That means they don’t let their foot off the gas too much when they get a lead. The Kings have allowed one power play goal against in their last six games (94.1-percent). If they can shut down the Leafs power play, they should be able to cruise to a win tonight.
I’ll be stacking the Kings’ second line tonight as the combination of Jeff Carter/Mike Richards/Tyler Toffoli isn’t overly expensive and goaltender Jonathan Quick is one of my top targets for 50/50s tonight.
