Edmonton Oilers at St. Louis Blues
Edmonton has won three of their last four games but let’s face it, two were against the Senators and the Islanders and then the team had a miraculous third period comeback against Minnesota on Tuesday to win 4-3 in a shootout. This team is playing a bit better, but they’re definitely not on some hot streak that warrants serious consideration. The one wild card they do have is Ben Scrivens as the goaltender has actually managed a better save percentage with Edmonton than he did with Los Angeles.
St. Louis had their five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday to the Dallas stars, losing 3-2 in overtime. They’re still sporting the best record in the NHL and they’ve still only allowed 13 goals against in eight games since the Olympic break. That game against Dallas marked the first time in seven games that this team allowed 30-plus shots on goal (they allowed 30 exactly). The power play has gone a bit cold of late (10.5-percent in their last eight games) but their dominance at even strength has been more than able to make up the difference.
Scrivens in net will always make me nervous about stacking a line, but this seems like a good spot to stack the Blues. I’ll probably play it safe tonight and avoid an outright stack and rather just rely on some Blues players for my 50/50 games. Also, as tempting as it might be, I don’t think taking Scrivens in a GPP is a smart play; I just can’t see Edmonton winning this game.
