Buffalo Sabres at Carolina Hurricanes
The Buffalo Sabres that we’ve come to know and love has returned over their last handful of games as Buffalo is just 1-4-0 in five March games and have been outshot on average by 13.4 a night. It’s nice to have a goalie that can make a lot of saves but he shouldn’t have to all the time. What’s even more worrisome for this team is that their offense has completely dried up with just seven goals in those five games. Their power play is operating at just a 7.2-percent clip for the month while they have given up four power play goals against. In short, not even Jhonas Enroth can save this team anymore.
Carolina is just 2-6-0 since the Olympic break but has managed to go 2-2-0 in their last four games, so maybe there is a bit of a turn-around going on. Amazingly, with all the talent this team can trot out for a power play unit, the Hurricanes are just 1-for-31 (3.2-percent) with the man advantage over their last eight games. That is an absolutely brutal stretch.
Jordan Staal has replaced Eric Staal on the team’s top line (though whatever line Eric is on is the true #1) and the line of J. Staal/Semin/Tlusty produced two goals in their last game out.
The Hurricanes lost the first game coming out of the break to Buffalo by a 3-2 score, a game where Carolina outshot the Sabres 38-18. I expect Carolina to win handily tonight and considering their prices, I will be looking to stack the Jordan Staal line in a couple of GPPs. I’m not sure how big of a fan I am of Cam Ward in net, though (read: not a big fan at all).
