Anaheim Ducks at Calgary Flames
The Ducks have lost three straight games (albeit two in shootouts) and have just three wins in their last nine games. This is sort of balancing out their amazing win streaks in December and January. It’s not that they’re playing a particularly poor brand of hockey – they have outshot their last three opponents by an average of 12 per game – but a shooting percentage of just 5.1-percent will drive down your goal totals pretty quickly. Their last game saw a new member on the top line with Ryan Getzlaf as Patrick Maroon replaced Kyle Palmieri halfway through the game. If that stick for this one, Maroon presents tremendous value.
Calgary has managed to go 3-4 since the Olympic break and five of those seven games were one-goal games. They’ve also held all opponents but one to 27 shots or fewer. There’s something going on down the Red Mile and it’s causing them to actually play good hockey of late. The penalty kill has been near-perfect in that stretch of games (93.8-percent, one goal against) and they are at least giving themselves a chance to win on most nights.
I’m not really sure what to think about this game. Anaheim is on a bit of a skid and Calgary is playing a little bit better. The Ducks have already toppled the Flames twice this year but both games were in Anaheim and one of those was just a 3-2 game. I will pick players from both sides here but will lean to Calgary’s goalie Joni Ortio in GPPs.
