Vancouver Canucks at Winnipeg Jets
Man oh man.
The Canucks managed one of the worst collapses in NHL history on Monday night when their 3-0, third period lead dissipated at home to the New York Islanders. They wound up losing the game 7-4 and tied a franchise record for most goals allowed in a period. That game came four days after a 6-1 loss to Dallas that defenseman Kevin Bieksa described as “rock bottom.” This team is seemingly getting worse and I think rock bottom is still ahead. I guess on the bright side, the Canucks scored four goals in a game for the first time in 14 games in that collapse.
Winnipeg has now lost three in a row and is now six points back of the final wildcard spot. Nights like these are “gimmie” points and they know they need them. The last game saw some lineup changes as Michael Frolik was back on the top line, Dustin Byfuglien went back down to the third line and Devin Setoguchi was on a line with Olli Jokinen and Evander Kane. This “spread the wealth” lineup is great for the team but bad for DFS players. The top power play unit is now being run by Byfuglien and Jacob Trouba, as well.
Both games played by these teams this year were one-goal games and each side has a regulation win. The most recent game was at the end of January and in the midst of this terrible Canucks run. I fully expect the Jets to win tonight and will probably stack their power play unit in a couple GPPs. I have learned my lesson about relying on Ondrej Pavelec in net, though.
